‘Press Pause’ profiles three acclaimed installations by Australian contemporary artists. The works by Susan Norrie, David Rosetzky and Daniel von Sturmer, recently acquired by the Gallery, point to the complexity and diversity of video-based art, and the significance of this medium in Australian contemporary culture. These artists draw on ideas and conventions from conceptual art, documentary, television and cinema, and engage with the architecture of the viewing space.
'Press Pause’ is open now, continuing until 9 October 2005. Admission is free.

Taking its title from American artist John Baldessari’s 1971 video I am making art, this exhibition investigates aspects of performance art — an art form which has had a profound impact on the development of postwar international art. Featuring photography, print and video, the exhibition traces links between the Gallery’s collections of Fluxus and conceptual art and contemporary work from Europe, Asia and the United States. Using humour, poetry and the absurd, the featured works explore physical actions that are outside normal patterns of behaviour. Artists include Aernout Mik (The Netherlands), Andrea Fraser (USA), Mike Parr (Australia), Nam June Paik (Korea/USA), Song Dong (China) and Erwin Wurm (Austria).
‘I am Making Art’ is open now, continuing until 25 September 2005. Admission is free.
